“Two persons dig holes between seedlings and the others apply the fertilizers. Then they cover the holes and the fertilizer application gets finished. They all come from Guangxi Province. Growing vegetables looks easy, but actually it involves various techniques,” said Zhan Chaojing, the only one who works in the vegetable base these days.

 

 

Since the vegetables are not in the harvest season now, there is not too much work to do. His work is to distribute the compound fertilizers to the needed places according to the weather.

 

“12 packets of compound fertilizers are needed for more than 200 mu (about 13.3 hectares) of chiles. The weather is changeable at present so we have to apply the fertilizers as quickly as possible. We can’t do it anymore if it rains again,”  Zhan added.

 

“I want to learn more skills and become a master at growing vegetables to help myself and others,” Zhan Chaojing smiled with a twinkle in his eye.

 

 

Zhan Chaojing, born after 1985, used to repair motorbikes in Jiehe County. He saved some money and decided to carve out a career for himself.

 

In 2020, Xiache Village, Jinping Town, Jiahe County introduced a large agricultural leading enterprise to vigorously develop the selenium-rich vegetable industry.

 

Supported by a specialized and mechanized company, Xiache Village found that strengthening the agricultural development is a new way for its development. Zhan Chaojing came back to the village and worked in the vegetable base, starting with the odd jobs.

 

 

After two years of work, Zhan Chaojing has learned some skills of growing vegetables. What makes him satisfied is that he is now able to earn 4,000 to 5,000 yuan per month and take care of his kid just in the village.

 

The Zhongshui River glittered in the sunlight. The chiles seedlings grew well thanks to the fertilizers carried by Zhan to the vegetable base. He said he often took a walk in the base, feeling relaxed and fulfilled to see the vegetables in vigorous growth.
